 2017 Preview 


       Mae Jemison completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Jaguars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Mae Jemison's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Etowah by a score of 44-27.

       The Jaguars enjoyed the first winning season in the school's history in 2016. No team at Mae Jemison ever won more games in a season than the six victories last year. The 342 points scored by the Jaguars last year were a team record in a single season. The defense allowed a team record 278 points last season. The Jaguars qualified for the playoffs for the first time in the school's history in 2016. The Jaguars have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The Jaguars hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach White saw improvement as they won six games following a 0-0 record in 2015.

      

       Mae Jemison is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only one seasons. They have managed a record of 6-5 over the past one years.

       The Jaguars are led by head coach Kelvis White who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Mae Jemison. The Jaguars saw improvement from a 0-0 record the season before coach White arrived. Under his direction the Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach White.

       Coach White's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 45-50 (47.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach White's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Mae Jemison Jaguars will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2017 season.

       The Jaguars should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Jaguars open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Calera on Friday, August 25 at Ricky M. Cairns Memorial Stadium. Last year the Calera Eagles finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 5A region three. The Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Carroll by a score of 28-8.

       Mae Jemison and Calera have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 1-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Calera winning by a score of 25-6.
